Before becoming an employed barrister specialising in shipping and insurance law, Kish was in practice for 12 years in commercial Chambers in Gray's Inn (Chambers of Richard Yorke QC, later of Elizabeth Appleby QC and Michael Beloff QC, 4-5 Gray's Inn Square). There he specialized in commercial law and litigation including insurance, reinsurance, shipping, international trade, banking and corporate insolvency and also contributed to Paget's Law of Banking. Notable cases include Punjab National Bank v De Boinville FT 1.2.1991 (political risks insurance; duties of insurance brokers); the "ZEUS" [1993] 2 Lloyd's Rep 84 (marine insurance, marine average adjustments, documentary credits); Yona v La Reunion Francaise (political risks insurance and reinsurance); C v S [1999] 2 All ER 343 (bankers' obligations not to "tip-off" in complying with disclosure provisions under freezing injunction). He was a David Karmel Scholar in Commercial Law at Gray's Inn in 1987. |
